Granliden And The Environment

Granliden is situated in some of the most spectacular country in New Hampshire. Crystal clear lakes, silent woodlands and wetlands teaming with wildlife are all located at Granliden. The residents know that the value of their property as well as much of the enjoyment that they have at Granliden is dependent on keeping the environment healthy.

The Granliden Community Association, as well as many residents of the community are members of the Lake Sunapee Protective Association. This Association is one of the oldest organizations of its kind in the United States, and has worked to preserve the lake for 100 years. The LSPA is active in water quality monitoring, shoreland protection, and maintains the three light houses on the lake. For more on the LSPA visit their site on the web.

The Granliden golf course is currently working toward full certification in the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program. This program is an effort between golf courses and the Audubon Society to work toward the creation of habitat for wildlife as well as to promote the most ecologically sound management practices on golf courses.

The management of the Granliden Community Association is currently working in coopration with the town of Sunapee toward the creation of a nature sanctuary that would encompass 70+ acres of town woods and wetland, with 10 acres of Granliden's land. The object is to develop a network of trails, identify environmentally sensitive areas, and create an area that local schools can use as an outdoor lab.

The Granliden Community is also an active recycling community. Over the past year our community has removed an estimated 3 tons of glass, 1 ton of paper and cardboard, 1 ton of metals and a half ton of plastics from the waste stream.
