Tennis has been a tradition at Granliden since the days when ladies at the hotel took up their racquets and played in long dresses. Currently the community boasts two true clay courts, and two Nova Pro-Clay courts that have the feel and play of clay courts but are less effected by the weather and are playable almost immediately after a rain. The Nova Pro-Clay courts are also illuminated for play after dark!
The swimming pool is located adjacent to the Nova Pro-Clay tennis courts. The pool measures 30 feet wide
by 60 feet long, is heated, and open during the summer season. The pool has bathroom/changing rooms, tables and chairs, some
under shade gazebos and a selection of loungers. Typically the pool is used on a daily basis for groups doing water aerobics,
people swimming laps in the early morning, and families enjoying the water throughout the day.
Across the street from the pool is a playground area that has a variety of swings and climbing structures and monkey bars suitable for children, a picnic table and a bocce court. For those that do not have their own bocce balls, a set is available for use in the pool house.
The history of Granliden spans over a century. From a boarding house in the 1890's run by the Covell sisters to a Grand Hotel then a Jesuite retreat and finally in the late 1960's the development over the next 12 years of the Granliden on Sunapee community. Keeping the best of the past and improving on those amenities and developing 108 town house units and retaining and modernizing 6 of the original 8 old hotel cottages.
